Shakespeare Visual Journal Pt2

  • After the crit I just started to make work there was no real rhyme or reason just going on instinct and praying it would give me something.
  • I started playing with collage after some research on elizabethan colour theory.

  • Looking at the Idea of a Female Othello, questioning power dynamics.
  • However this is something that would have to have the whole series of prints focused on if done looking at lagos misogyny and Othello's issues with both their race and gender. It strays away from the brief In a way I don't think I can really Justify or have the passion to try to.
  • One of the first phrases Iago says to another person is "I am not what I seem" and this quote got stuck in my head, because it set up lagos characters malicious intentions for you straight away and I wanted to explore that more.
  • Looking at taking the quote as a title and then literally dehumanising  Iago to create and instant visual relation between Iago and the concept of evilness.

  • After Our crit I decided to study the female figure more.
  • I don't know why.
  • I think I panicked.
  • The layering of the inks to create the images was a nice effect that I think may be interesting to come back to in the future?

  •  I also forgot how to draw black female faces so Drew a load of them on newsprint then stapled it into a book.
  • Once again post crit panic on my behalf
  • I'm trying but maybe I need to step back and look at the work I've made and see if there are any stand out pieces that can be refined.
