OUIL403 A-Z poster Development and Final Product

Beginning sketches - Looking at how to compose myself drinking since I have to draw myself 26 times.

Using red as my main colour however it didn't really add anything however it did give me the idea of using it as a spot colour

Using red as a spot colour allows the viewer to instantly recognise the fact that the liquid being drunk from the glass is wine, because of this there is no confusion of what is the focus in the picture.

Over all I do like the way the image has turned out although the line work could have been more consistent; the use of block colour and the red spot colour draws the eye and makes the images easier decipher.

The response for peers to my work echoes my overall reasons for designing the poster the way I did.

One of the first issues I had to confront when crafting this piece was developing it to a point where it could actually be made as I had not got all the letters done for this piece as it was the last idea I quickly sketched up just as a spontaneous idea. However as it was the one picked but my peers I found that to make the process easier I just looked at creating mini scenarios which allowed the drinking to take place anywhere. because I had the one constant which was of me always drinking it allowed the poster to tell a narrative without the use of any dialogue which was something I only fond out when I had finished the poster and could see all the scenes on the same page.

The spacing and craftsman ship of the piece could have been better, the line work is an awkward mix of not being too controlled or too expressive to add to the narrative and maybe create a more loose body figure to reflect the fact that I am drinking wine within the poster. However the block colour helps you lock in on the poster as well as being a device for symbolising the focus point of each letter (which is me drinking). I chose to use a spot colour with the read as I felt it was a crucial device in telling the narrative of the piece otherwise it could have easily been interpreted as me drinking water which doesn't half explain my crazy antics. Spacing and composition could also have been better applied to this piece which is something I will focus more on on my next project.
