OUIL404 Viewpoint & Depth

We looked at viewpoint and depth today and how the are used in tandem to create a more dynamic scene. Our task was to place three figures within different points of the image the fore, mid and background.
  • Composition three characters in a way that doesn't create uncomfortable negative space was a lot harder than I thought.
  • The importance of using roughs and frames was not lost to me on this task as it helped me use my roughs to figure out the best positions for the characters.

  •  By using the concept of one of the figures taking a selfie it allowed for a slightly more distorted view point than I was use to
  • Getting the correct sizes of the hand in relation to the frame was a real challenge but once I'd decided to let the hand take up almost a quarter of the frame the image began to flow a lot better.

  • I went too heavy with the coloured pencil at points and have just realised I didn't colour in a bit of the background
  • The expressions have come out well all focusing on one point
  • In retrospect i think that the hand should have taken up even more of the frame to balance it better.
  • I need to start taking bigger risks with my compositing and proportioning in images
  • This felt like a  learning curve in the way I will approach both composition in general and the use of positioning multiple objects or people within an image.
